This will focus on the five abilities; Physical, Cognitive, Creative, Social & Personal and Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS:Locomotor, Non-Locomotor and manipulative)
The Primary Link Teachers and SSCo’s will work together to identify the talented students. It is acknowledged that primary staff have a broader knowledge of the whole student and their background. All year 6 students across the partnership will be tested for their potential via standardisation days run by the SSCo and Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator.
Individual schools will be informed which students scores are within the top and bottom 10% for their school. The partnership will encourage schools to use this information for curriculum and lesson planning. Those schools that will be receiving multi-skills coaching through the partnership in 2009-2010 will be advised to encourage those students that are in the bottom 10% to attend.
Based on the results of the testing the top 10% of students across the partnership will be invited to enter the Gravesham Schools Sports Academy which will track & monitor their progress throughout their Primary & Key Stage 3 Secondary Education.
Pupils will be issued with a workbook to record their progress with their PLT/G&T Co-ordinator. They will be invited to attend the Academy Multi Skills and Multi Sports workshops.
Secondary Pupils will be assessed by the P.E departments prior to standardisation days. It is acknowledged that secondary staff will have a broader knowledge of the whole student and their background. All nominated year 7 students will be tested for their potential via standardisation days run by the SSCo’s, Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator and P.E staff.
Nominated students will be invited to attend the Gravesham Schools Sports Academy.
Multiskill Academies are specifically aimed at young people who have been identified as gifted and talented. They create a multi-skills environment which develops the young persons agility, balance, co-ordination, body awareness and thinking core skills.
The objective of the multi-skill academy is to improve the tracking of gifted and talented pupils from primary to secondary in the partnership, challenge and develop gifted and talented young people and improve the guidance and signposting to local sports clubs.
Funded by the Youth Sports Trust the partnership will run MSA sessions after school and during holidays for the gifted and talented students.
The Multiskill sessions will be run by Arsenal Grassroots coaches, SSCo’s, Meopham Leisure Trainers and School Sport Coaching Programme coaches. The practical sessions will begin January 2010.
