Creating a lasting legacy of Young Ambassadors across Gravesham

The Gravesham Leadership Academy will support and train Young Sport Leaders from local secondary and primary schools to create a consortium of volunteers who are committed to actively volunteering within their School, the Gravesham School Sport Partnership and Community setting.

The Young Sports Leaders will link closely with the national Young Ambassador programme to become the driving force in increasing participation and promoting healthy active lifestyles for other young people and developing a greater impact beyond their own school.

The National Young Ambassador Programme

Each year until 2012, school sport partnerships across England will recruit two young people to take on the role of Gold Young Ambassador for two years.

In their first year, they work within their local communities championing sport and promoting the ethos and values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement.

In their second year, they will  become a Platinum Young Ambassador and take on a mentoring role with the new Gold Young Ambassador intake.

By the time the Olympic and Paralympic Games reach London in 2012, more than 5,000 young people from across the UK will have been through the Young Ambassador programme, which is managed by the Youth Sport Trust on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
